It is the height of disrespect, but no surprise to me, that the majority party has decided to push legislation that labels many of America’s most common guns as so-called “assault weapons”. In fact, this proposal goes beyond the 1994 ban that, by the way, was found to have little to no impact on gun crime rates while it was in effect. This legislation even more broadly defines what types of firearms would be banned by requiring just one qualifying feature instead of the previous two-test requirement, and by banning all AK and AR style weapons, of which there are millions already in circulation being used lawfully by everyday Americans. I have never supported taking away the Second Amendment rights from an overwhelming majority of law-abiding gun owners just because less than 0.0007% of the population decides to engage in criminal activities.
