IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Brian Baluta (202) 225-6155 January 23, 2011 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today released the following statement regarding the President's State Of The Union (SOTU) address, which is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern (6:00 p.m. Pacific): "The President's oratory skills are well-known. And I expect that this State of the Union will be no different. My concern is that we've had plenty of opportunity for political pontification on both sides. "While such opportunities are part and parcel of our system of government, the crisis in Washington these days is that it produces more rhetoric than it does policy. "It's my belief that Nevadans and Americans have seen through the posturing and are demanding meaningful production from their elected officials aimed at fueling private-sector recovery, job-creation, budget-discipline and debt-reduction. "This requires thoughtfulness, dialogue, action and compromise. It discourages me to see a pattern of disrespect for the federal legislative process occasioned by those who would simply not respond to ideas with which they disagree. "No budget from Senate leadership in 1,000 days, the refusal to debate the 28 House-passed jobs bills, and the failure to appoint conference committees to allow discussion has resulted in an unprecedented level of political gridlock, which ignores the needs of Nevada and the nation. "Ben Franklin once said, 'Well done is better than well said.' To put it another way, 'Show me. Don't tell me.' "We've heard plenty.
