This legislation would require states that permit carrying concealed firearms to recognize such permits from other states. Amodei had previously voted in support of this legislation as a member of the House Judiciary Committee, where all anti-gun amendments offered to weaken the legislation were defeated. Data presented in the committee markup conclusively showed that individuals who go through the process of getting permits are not committing crimes. "Americans are citizens, not subjects," said Amodei. "All Americans have the Constitutional right to defend themselves, their families and their property. This legislation would enable millions of law-abiding permit holders to exercise their right to self-defense when traveling outside their home states." Presently, 49 states have laws to permit citizens to carry concealed firearms.
