Congressman Amo served on the Congressional Escort Committee for His Majesty, King Charles III. He met with the King and Her Majesty, Queen Camilla, for a private audience, before leading them into the House Chamber for the King to deliver his historic address to a Joint Meeting of the Congress. Alongside the other co-chairs of the Congressional UK Caucus, Amo also introduced a resolution recognizing the enduring special relationship between the United States and United Kingdom. As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of independence from the United Kingdom, the bipartisan resolution celebrates the long history of friendly relations between the two nations grounded in shared democratic values and mutual security. “As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional United Kingdom Caucus, I was honored to welcome His Majesty, King Charles III to the United States,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI-01). “Rhode Island was the first colony to declare independence from the British crown 250 years ago. In the intervening centuries, our nations have developed a close partnership by working together to advance democracy, strengthen security, and expand opportunity. That Special Relationship remains essential to promoting freedom and stability around the world, and I look forward to continued partnership in the centuries ahead.” Background Congressman Amo is Co-Chair of the Congressional UK Caucus. A recipient of the Marshall Scholarship, which funds American students to study in the United Kingdom as thanks for the American Marshall Plan which funded the rebuilding of Europe after World War II, Amo undertook graduate studies at the University of Oxford. ### 1 2026-05-22T06:27:39Z 2026-05-22T06:29:18Z
