With a strong presence of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in our Ocean State, we can be a hub of efforts to protect our environment. I also look forward to advocating for investments in good-paying manufacturing and research jobs, especially for the biotechnology sectors. I’m excited at the work ahead to develop the supply chains of the future to add more rungs to the ladder of opportunities for all Rhode Islanders.” SST has broad jurisdiction over many areas of non-defense Federal research and development (R&D). The Committee has exclusive jurisdiction over the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). The Committee also has authority over R&D activities at the Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a member of SST, Congressman Amo will be uniquely positioned to advocate for Rhode Island throughout the implementation of the CHIPS and Science Act that was passed during the last Congress. The investments from this law will allow the United States to once again lead the world in the manufacturing of semiconductors, tackle supply chain vulnerabilities, and support our nation’s scientific research and technological leadership – steps that will strengthen America’s economic and national security. Congressman Amo is also a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, where he sits on the Subcommittees on Europe and Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T01:14:16Z
