The House passed H.R. 4761, the DHS Opioid Detection Resilience Act of 2019, in a 393 - 1 vote and H.R. 4739, the Synthetic Opioid Exposure Prevention and Training Act, in a 393-0 vote. Police officers and customs officials work to keep our communities safe, but often they don't know what type of drugs they might come in contact with on the job. That's why these bills work to ensure they have adequate equipment to test and protect themselves against exposure, said Rep. Axne. I'm proud to have voted for these bills, and to see them pass overwhelmingly. Between 1999 and 2017, over 700,000 Americans died due to drug overdose, while countless more struggled with addiction. Tragically, 68% of drug overdose deaths involved opioids.
