Trump's approval of Pennsylvania's request for a Major Disaster Declaration to recover from severe storms and flooding that occurred from August 10 to August 15, 2018. This designation provides additional federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts in damaged areas. The counties in Pennsylvania's 11th District covered by this declaration are: Columbia, Montour, and Wyoming. This year's summer storms caused flooding in countless counties across Pennsylvania, devastating lives and businesses, Barletta said. Since August, I have been working with local, state, and federal officials to ensure that all those impacted by these storms have the resources they need to get back on their feet. The funds provided by this declaration will help affected communities begin to recover, and I thank President Trump for helping the people of Pennsylvania. Once a Major Disaster Declaration is made by the president, entities can apply for funds. Eligible applicants for these Public Assistance funds include states, federally recognized tribal governments, U.S. territories, local governments, and certain private non-profit organizations. Currently, Pennsylvania's Individual Assistance request is pending, and an announcement on its status should be announced in the near future. Barletta has long been an advocate of pre-disaster mitigation, which can prevent or lessen the devastation brought on by flooding and other disasters, and includes a wide variety of activities, such as proactive preparation and planning, elevating or moving structures prone to flooding, and hardening structures to mitigate effects of hurricanes or earthquakes.Such actions are the key focus of Barletta'sDisaster Recovery Reform Act (DRRA), which was signed into law by President Trump on October 5, 2018.
