This stopgap funding measure will fund the federal government for seven weeks, prevent a shutdown, and provide additional resources for the protection of public officials at a time of unprecedented political violence in America. Only 1 Democrat joined Barrett and his Republican colleagues in passing this legislation. Following the vote, Barrett released the below statement: “This clean continuing resolution keeps the lights on and gives us more time to deliver a fiscally responsible funding package. I supported this bill to prevent a shutdown, continue paying our troops, and enhance protection for public officials on both sides of the aisle. Now it’s Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats’ turn to put partisan politics aside, do the right thing, and send this legislation to President Trump’s desk to keep the government open for the American people.” Background: Government funding expires at midnight on September 30. The continuing resolution passed today is clean and straightforward CR — free of poison pills — and simply extends government funding until November 21.
