Barry Moore voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in inherent contempt of Congress for failing to respond to a lawfully issued subpoena. The resolution calls on the Speaker of the House to impose a daily fine of $10,000 per day on Attorney General Garland until he turns over the audio recordings of President Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur regarding his mishandling of classified documents. Inherent contempt, a long tradition in American and British systems, was first utilized by Congress in 1795. It is long established that Congress’ power to enforce its subpoenas is integral to the legislative process. Without this power, Congress would be left at the mercy of the other branches to carry out its constitutional duties. "The American people deserve to hear what's on the Hur tapes, particularly after Biden's disturbing performance in the recent presidential debate," said Moore. "Garland's non-compliance with a lawfully issued subpoena to turn over the tapes fails the people Garland is meant to serve.
