Their app called “CLICK” assists users in limiting their time on social media by redirecting the user to more productive tasks based on their interests and needs. “I’m excited to announce that Sai, Annabel, Owen, and Dorothy—students at Stanton College Preparatory School in Jacksonville—are the winners of this year’s Congressional App Challenge! Their innovative thinking, creativity, and teamwork illustrate the bright future of technology in Northeast Florida. I’m proud of their hard work, and want them to keep coding and dreaming big,” said Congressman Bean. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The students were motivated by the increased usage of social media by young adults aged 13-17, which studies show leads to body image issues, cyberbullying, difficulty sleeping, and emotional withdrawal. The app was created in Android Studio, drafted in HTML and CSS on Replit, and the students conducted surveys of their peers to determine whether the app would be helpful or not. The CAC highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education allowing students to hone their coding and technology skills. Middle and high school students from the Fourth District are eligible to compete in this annual competition.
