Funding was made available through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020, P.L. 116-260, a piece of legislation supported by U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03). "Right now, the sad reality is that Black Americans are being hospitalized at nearly three times the rate from COVID-19 as compared to their white counterparts, not to mention that they are almost twice as likely to die. The statistics are just as bad for the Latinx community and Asian Americans," Beatty said. "I have heard from countless constituents about the all-too common heartache, life-changing impact, and systemic barriers facing their families because of the ongoing public health crisis. As Representative of Ohio's Third Congressional District and Chair of the powerful Congressional Black Caucus, I refuse to stand idly by as more of our family members, friends, and neighbors die."
