The Subcommittee hearing examined the impact of economic barriers on justice-involved individuals, as well as opportunities to increase economic access for justice-involved individuals. "The United States has the largest population of incarcerated persons in the world with 2.1 million Americans in prison. Another 78 million Americans holding a criminal record, with a third of American Adults having been arrested in their lifetime," Beatty said. "Justice-involved individuals are our neighbors, friends, and family members, but even though we are a nation of second chances, many justice-involved individuals continue to face insurmountable barriers to employment and financial inclusion." She added, "Through introducing the Fair Hiring in Banking Act, I am working to build pathways to give those who are seeking a second chance an opportunity for greater economic opportunity and a brighter future."
