If enacted, the Paycheck Fairness Act would strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and guarantee that women can challenge pay discrimination and hold employers accountable. Immediately following the vote, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) said: "As an original cosponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act, I am proud to join with my Democratic colleagues who agree that it is long past time to close the ever-persistent pay gap between men and women. It is truly beyond comprehension that a woman still earns only 82 cents for every dollar a man makes for the same work. This historic bill will rectify this societal wrong, guaranteeing equal pay for equal work and ensuring expanded economic opportunity for hardworking American women and men." The Paycheck Fairness Act awaits further consideration in the U.S. Senate.
