Congressman Nick Begich, a proud co-sponsor of the legislation, praised the bill's passage as an important step toward restoring the public's trust in government. “The American people deserve to know that their elected representatives are serving the public interest, not their own financial interests,” said Congressman Nick Begich. “Frequent trading of individual stocks by Members of Congress has become an increasingly problematic issue and needs to end. Public service is a public trust, and Alaskans expect honesty, transparency, and accountability from those they send to Washington.” The Stop Insider Trading Act, introduced by House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01), prohibits Members of Congress, their spouses, and their dependent children from purchasing securities issued by publicly traded companies or comparable financial instruments.
