https://benniethompson.house.gov/media/press-releases/application-period-federal-emergency-management-agencies-swift-current Application Period for the Federal Emergency Management Agencies Swift Current Initiative 2022-06-08 2022 2022-06 Democrat House MS Bennie G. Thompson T000193 benniethompson.house.gov benniethompson https://benniethompson.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper (Washington D.C.) – Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson announced the application period for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Swift Current Initiative. The Biden Administration is offering local governments in Mississippi the opportunity to apply on behalf of residents to receive Federal funding for repeatedly flooded and substantially damaged buildings that are insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). FEMA has awarded the State of Mississippi $5 million for the Swift Current Initiative. Under the initiative, the Federal government will cover 90 to 100 percent of the costs for repetitive loss structures and 75 percent for substantially damaged structures. “Climate change presents a serious threat to lives and homes in the Mississippi Delta, as natural disasters grow more frequent and severe. Mitigation funding can be a key tool in the fight against the effects of the climate crisis,” said Congressman Thompson. “I am pleased to see that the Biden Administration has prioritized the state of Mississippi through the Swift Current Initiative, which is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This funding will help provide timely mitigation funding for those who have been victims of repetitive losses and support efforts to mitigate future damage. I encourage local governments to submit applications for eligible individuals as soon as possible.” 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T02:39:01Z
