The bill updates the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), modernizing the federal permitting process to advance President Trump’s energy abundance agenda while continuing responsible environmental stewardship. Specifically, this legislation establishes a 150- day deadline for filing claims against a project, sets minimum review times for government agencies to complete environmental assessments and impact statements, and limits the scope of major federal actions to which NEPA would apply. Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement: “Many people are unfamiliar with how bureaucratic and outdated our current permitting system has become. Over the past few decades, review times for environmental impact statements have skyrocketed. In fact, some projects take more than four and a half years, longer than it takes to get a college degree. These delays prevent many energy projects from moving forward and make countless more economically unviable, ultimately increasing what you pay at the pump and your utility bills.
