Representative Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Vice-Chair of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, worked closely on this legislation and strongly supported its passage. “The NDAA is about giving our men and women in uniform the support and tools they need to keep Americans safe. This legislation closes the readiness gap, boosts base funding, and rebuilds our military,” said Bilirakis. “Most importantly, we are making sure our troops get the largest pay raise they have seen in six years. Our active duty service members sacrifice so much on our behalf, the least we can do is ensure they get the compensation and benefits they deserve.” Included in the NDAA is a provision based on Bilirakis’s legislation to allow more disabled Veterans to utilize their travel benefits on military aircraft when space is available. The NDAA reforms the TRICARE network for service members and their families, extends access to care in Military Treatment Facilities, combats sexual assault in the military, and provides troops with a 2.1 percent pay raise.
