The funds will be used to purchase a new, fully equipped patrol vehicle for the City of Leslie Police Department. “It is crucial that the federal government be a dependable partner to our local law enforcement so that they can protect and serve their communities. However, local police, fire, and other emergency services departments often face large, up-front costs to make needed investments to hire, train, and equip their personnel. Thanks to these USDA Rural Development funds, Leslie can purchase a fully equipped patrol car to help keep the city safe," said Congressman Bishop. “As the leading Democrat on the Congressional committee that provides funding to USDA Rural Development, I will continue to make sure that America’s rural communities have the resources they need to thrive.” “These grant funds have a huge impact for the City of Leslie, allowing us to have a decent vehicle for our officers to use as they keep the city safe,” said Leslie Mayor Matthew Daniel. “As a small, rural community we would not otherwise be able to afford a new vehicle from our operating budget.” More than 100 types of projects are eligible for Community Facilities funding. Eligible applicants include municipalities, public bodies, nonprofit organizations and federally recognized Native American tribes.
