Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is awarding $199,850 to Open Arms, Inc. in Albany, Georgia through the department's Transitional Living Program. The program supports projects that provide long-term residential services to homeless youth between the ages of 16 and 22. Open Arms, Inc. is an umbrella organization which oversees 4 sheltering programs including The Bridge, The Maternity Group Home, Scattered-Site Apartments, and the Transitional Living Program Shelter. "Across America, about 30% of people experiencing homelessness are under the age of 24. Those experiencing homelessness have a harder time finding employment and are at greater risk of experiencing physical and mental health problems as well as engaging with gangs or being the victims of violence themselves," said Congressman Bishop. "These HHS funds support vital programs that help avoid the destructive consequences of homelessness and provide a safer, better future for our youth and our communities."
