The funding bill was adopted by a bipartisan vote of 254-175 and was signed by President Biden, thus averting a shutdown of the federal government. "We have to keep the government open so that it can continue to serve the American people," said Congressman Bishop. "Federal departments and agencies help improve the lives of every American from child care and education, nutrition assistance programs, health care programs, and social security to housing, job training, and infrastructure projects. It also ensures the smooth, continued operation of our national defense and upholds our commitments to our veterans." During debate on the bill, Congressman Bishop highlighted provisions that address food insecurity and provide $28.6 billion to extend emergency disaster funding to help Americans recover from recent hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, winter storms, and other major disasters declared in 2021 and prior years.
