Under the previous administration, the pre-pandemic average (seasonally adjusted) number of jobs added was 186,000. Under President Biden, the average (seasonally adjusted) number of jobs added is 479,000 – over 2.5 times the previous Administration’s pre-pandemic average. “Today’s jobs report is just another example of how the Biden-Harris Administration and Congressional Democrats delivered for the American people over the last two years. “In December of 2020, our nation’s unemployment rate was almost seven percent and our economy was reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, Congressional Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration passed key, evidence-based legislation to provide critical relief and support for workers and their families. These legislative victories helped add more than 10.5 million jobs to the economy; recover all of the jobs lost during the Trump Administration; save the pensions of over one million workers; deliver the largest, one-time federal investment in K-12 education in U.S. history; reduce health care premiums under the Affordable Care Act and drug costs for seniors; achieve the largest reduction in childhood poverty ever recorded in a single year; and reduce food shortages among households with children by more than 40 percent in less than 6 months. In short, we helped workers, families, and our economy not only recover from the pandemic, but build back even stronger. “In the 118th Congress, we must continue to put people over politics and advance meaningful policies that put the needs of workers and families first.
