This is a project that I have been fighting for over the last several years. The City of Norfolk is at a high risk for flooding due to high tides, nor'easters and hurricanes, and this risk has only been exacerbated by rising sea levels and land subsidence. Norfolk and other communities in Hampton Roads have risen to the challenge and invested in our community to ensure that we can continue to live with the water that surrounds us and supports our region. Norfolk is home to the Port of Virginia and the world's largest naval base and protecting the city from recurrent flooding is extraordinarily important both for our national security and the Commonwealth's economy. As co-chair of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Task Force, I am also proud to have co-led the effort to fund resource protection and restoration projects within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This bill includes $90 million for such projects, an increase of $50 million, contributing to healthier streams, rivers, and a restored Chesapeake Bay. Finally, two critical projects in Chesapeake that I advocated for the North Landing Bridge Replacement and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Bridge Replacement at Deep Creek were also included in this package. These projects are critical to connecting our region and important to the future of Chesapeake. # # # 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
