It would also make important investments in shipbuilding, increase funding for community health centers and take action to lower the cost of prescription drugs. “At the last minute, Speaker Johnson and extreme MAGA Republicans suddenly rejected our bipartisan agreement, which included a reauthorization of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Actand the Older Americans Act. Our agreement would have strengthened workforce development to benefit workers, employers, and the economy, and it would have helped millions of older Americans live independently and with dignity. “They stripped our bipartisan deal of many of those necessary provisions and suddenly included a two-year extension of the debt ceiling. This extension will simplify the process for them to give tax handouts to the ultra-wealthy and corporations, and cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, while significantly increasing the national debt.
