Named for Pueblo, Colorado, bringing home the ship is a personal priority, as well as an important national effort to honor fallen Petty Officer Duane Hodges and display American resolve.” Background: In the early afternoon of January 23, 1968, the USS Pueblo was on a mission in international waters off the coast of North Korea. Though unprovoked, the North Korean navy captured the USS Pueblo in violation of international maritime law. The siege resulted in the death of Petty Officer Duane Hodges and lead to the almost year-long imprisonment of 82 American sailors. To this day, though the USS Pueblo is commissioned by the United States Navy, it remains on display as a war trophy in North Korea’s capital city of Pyongyang. Representative Boebert’s legislation facilitates the return of the USS Pueblo to the United States.
