Federal funding is headed to Cairo to to help deal with the opioid crisis. A 212-thousand dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Distance Learning and Telemedicine program will go to Community Health and Emergency Services, Incorporated in Cairo. The grant funds will be used to implement a new telemedicine project to treat opioid abuse and reestablish pharmacy services in Cairo, serving almost 82-hundred individuals in southern Illinois. U.S. Congressman Mike Bost saysover two-thousand Illinoisans were victims of opioid-related deaths last year.
