Dave Brat (R-Va.) released the following statement following passage of H.J.Res. 123, the Continuing Appropriations Act. “Today we voted to keep the federal government open and ensure necessary funding is available for the Children’s Health insurance Program. This was an important step to maintain momentum, and it allows us to keep our eye on the prize and pass tax reform legislation that will produce economic growth.“During the course of GOP conference discussions on how to wrap up the outstanding issues, an agreement was reached to pass a continuing resolution with 218 Republican votes. Our hope is that we can find 218 Republican votes as we formulate the next continuing resolution or the final omnibus legislation. “Year-end decisions rarely go well for the American taxpayers when there is pressure to leave the swamp, and the pressure will only grow when the next funding bill runs out just three days before Christmas. So it is critical that moving forward, we do not break ranks and allow the Democrat agenda to determine final funding legislation. Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House and we must work to advance our platform and keep the promises we made to the American people.
