Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today successfully procured $11.4 million to fund the Corps of Engineers’ construction phase of the Brunswick Harbor Modification Project. This vital investment in the nation’s second busiest port for import and export Ro/Ro cargo will modify the existing federal navigation channel at the Port of Brunswick, making the port more navigable and increasing operational efficiency. Once completed, the project will have an annual economic benefit of more than $2.3 million. "Projects like this contribute to Georgia’s status as the number one state in the nation to do business. The Port of Brunswick is a key element of the global supply chain and employer in the First Congressional District. During my frequent visits to the Port, I’ve heard from employees and shipping companies about the importance of this project. Our local economy and the global shipping community will benefit from this necessary project, and I am proud to see it get the federal attention and resources it deserves,” said Rep. Carter. “As the premier U.S. gateway for autos and heavy machinery, the Port of Brunswick plays a vital role in the nation’s economic prosperity. The proposed upgrades will allow Brunswick to accommodate expanding trade, support job growth throughout the Southeast and keep pace with the larger vessels entering the trade,” said Georgia Ports Authority President and CEO Griff Lynch. “The GPA appreciates the ongoing support from Congressman Carter and the entire Georgia congressional delegation in ensuring these important improvements to the Brunswick harbor are completed quickly.” It passed the House Thursday as part of the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024, the fifth FY24 appropriations bill to advance through the House this Congress. The funding was originally submitted by Rep. Carter as a Community Funding Request (CFR) for the federal government’s FY24 budget. Last year, Rep.
