"Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) has signed a discharge petition to force a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on legislation to reopen the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to allow certain small businesses to apply for a second loan from the funding that remains in the program."As small businesses in the First District and across the nation suffer due to no fault of their own, there is more than $130 billion left in the Paycheck Protection Program,"said Carter."I have signed on to legislation that would allow certain small businesses to apply for a second loan since there is money leftover. However, Speaker Pelosi has decided to hold this funding hostage and has refused to bring this legislation to the floor. I am proud to sign this discharge petition to force a vote because small businesses simply do not have time to wait for the Speaker of the House to play political games. They need help, and they need it now." The discharge petition would force a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on H.R. 8265. The legislation would allow small businesses that employ fewer than 300 employees or meet SBA size standards and have had at least a 25% reduction in gross revenue to apply.$25 billion would be set aside for businesses with 10 or fewer employees.
