Today, Rep. Burchett introduced a resolution that would require the House Clerk to read the Congressional Budget Office cost estimate of all bills on the House Floor. "What happened with the Oct. 1 continuing resolution was a disservice to every American taxpayer," said Rep. Burchett. "The public needs to know what their elected officials are voting on and how much it costs, but that was impossible with the process that brought the continuing resolution to the floor. I am introducing this resolution so that if legislation is rushed through the House or drafted behind closed doors, the American people will at least know how much it is going to cost them." This new rule will ensure that Members of the House and the American taxpayers are made aware of the cost of any legislation voted upon by the U.S. House of Representatives. The full text of Rep.
