According to a January 2015 study from the Illinois Commerce Commission, losing these plants would have cost Illinois thousands of jobs and more than $1.2 billion in annual economic activity. Because of the damage this would have on Illinois’ economy, Bustos led a bipartisan Illinois delegation letter to Governor Rauner and leaders in the State legislature urging them to work out their differences and protect good-paying jobs by investing in non-carbon energy. “Like a lot of Illinoisans, I’ve been disheartened by the dysfunction in Springfield, but I think they deserve to be recognized when they do the right thing,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “By coming together to pass a compromise energy bill that will protect thousands of good-paying Illinois jobs, continue the production of non-carbon energy and help break our addiction to foreign fossil fuels, we’re building a better future for all of our families.” ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
