Academy Night gives local students an opportunity to learn about attending one of our nation’s military service academies. Representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy (West Point), and U.S. Naval Academy will be on hand. Byrne said: “One of the most rewarding parts of my job is being able to nominate young men and women to attend our nation’s prestigious military service academies. I encourage all interested students, parents, and teachers to join us on October 3rd to learn more about the nomination process and visit with representatives from the service academies.” In order to attend most of the service academies, students must have a nomination. Congressmen, Senators, the Vice President, and the President are the only ones who can nominate a student to a service academy. That said, just having a nomination will not guarantee that a student is admitted. The event is open to all high school students, parents, and teachers in Alabama’s First Congressional District. If you have questions about the nomination process, please contact Rep. Byrne’s Baldwin County office at 251-989-2664.
