The money is part of the Project Prevent grant program, a program aimed at expanding the capacity of local education agencies to more effectively assist affected schools in communities exposed to violence. In June, Congressman André Carson sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, on behalf of Metropolitan School District's $998,573 award.
