Carson Statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day | 2021-01-18 | 2021 | 2021-01 | Democrat | House | IN | André Carson | C001072 | carson.house.gov | carson | https://carson.house.gov/media/press-releases | scraper | Indianapolis, IN -- Congressman André Carson (IN-07) released the following statement on this year's Martin Luther King Jr. holiday: "On this day --92 years after Dr. King was born in the heart of the Jim Crow era, and now more than 50 years after he was assassinated trying to dismantle the systems of segregation across America -- his legacy and lessons are more important than ever. The forces of bigotry continue to rear their ugly head, and with deadly violence, at the United States Capitol and elsewhere. Our country remains divided by hatred and inequality, and at times, many of us feel hopeless. "However, Dr. King never said the journey to build the Beloved Community would be easy. He understood better than anyone that this work is challenging, it's fraught with risk, and it will take generations to achieve -- but achieve it we will. Amidst the horrors of the past year, we have also moved toward positive change, which makes me hopeful that better days are ahead. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:19:43Z |
