This grant program falls within the scope of USDA Rural Development, which is committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in rural America. The USDA Economic Impact Initiative Grant program provides funding to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural communities that qualify for economic development assistance. Mahanoy City Borough will use the grant to purchase a Mini Excavator for the borough’s street department. “Targeted federal funding programs, through the USDA’s Economic Impact Initiative program, go a long way toward helping our small communities and their surrounding areas,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “I support maintaining these programs so our small towns do not get left out or left behind, and can provide essential services to the local communities they serve.” The USDA Rural Development programs offers direct loans, loan guarantees, and grants to develop or improve essential public services and facilities in communities across rural America. These amenities help increase the competitiveness of rural communities in attracting and retaining businesses that provide employment and services for their residents.
