"At the same time, we must prevent a government shutdown. A shutdown is bad policy that would halt the smooth functioning of critical federal agencies, like the Department of Veterans Affairs, and harm our federal employees, including members of the Armed Forces, Border Patrol agents, postal workers, air traffic control, and more who would be furloughed or have their pay delayed. While the legislation proposed today isn’t perfect, it would have addressed both of these issues. A majority of House Republicans supported this effort but I am frustrated that it did not pass.
