Congressman Higgins issued the following statement: “Hurricanes Laura and Delta caused extensive damages to the Port of Lake Charles and the Calcasieu Ship Channel. Both are critical economic assets for Southwest Louisiana. Channel navigation has been greatly restricted due to several sunken barges that are obstructing safe passage. We’re working closely with the Port, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the United States Navy’s salvage experts to clear those obstacles and reopen the channel to normal commercial activity.
