If enacted, the bill would provide: $12.7 million to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ construction account for the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Hurricane Protection project. Funding would be used to perform work on hurricane and storm surge mitigation endeavors in Calcasieu, Cameron, and Vermilion parishes. $1.2 million to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ investigations account for the Port of Iberia. Funding would be used to advance the Acadiana to Gulf of Mexico Access Channel (AGMAC) project, which will ultimately open the Port of Iberia to heavier projects that require greater draft, creating jobs and new economic opportunities in the region. “It’s good that my funding requests for the Southwest Coastal Louisiana hurricane protection project and the Port of Iberia are included in the House Energy and Water spending bill. A tremendous amount of work went into our effort. Both of these projects are critical for South Louisiana,” said Congressman Higgins. “We’re going to continue working within the Congressional appropriations process to deliver wins for Louisiana.” To see all Community Project Funding items in the House Energy & Water spending bill, click here.
