https://cleaver.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/congressman-cleaver-announces-27-million-bipartisan-infrastructure-law Congressman Cleaver Announces $27 Million From Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Kansas City Transit 2022-04-07 2022 2022-04 Democrat House MO Emanuel Cleaver C001061 cleaver.house.gov cleaver https://cleaver.house.gov/media-center/press-releases scraper (Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) will receive more than $27 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in Fiscal Year 2022 to maintain, upgrade, and expand local transit in the Kansas City Region. Congressman Cleaver helped deliver the funding with his support for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and it comes as part of the law's historic $20 billion investment in transit projects across the nation over the next five years. "Today's announcement is just the latest example of how President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for Kansas Citians, Missourians, and Americans across the nation as we keep working to build a better America for all," said Congressman Cleaver. "When I think about this monumental infusion of federal funding, I see brand new electric buses, upgraded transit facilities, and, of course, good-paying jobs for workers who will be responsible for building, maintaining, and operating the future of transit in Kansas City. That's going to lead to lower emissions, cleaner air, and stronger communities that will continue to grow in an equitable fashion. I am proud to have helped bring this funding home to the Fifth Congressional District where it will be put to good use as a foundational component of the Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor." "We are grateful that Congressman Cleaver is committed to investing in public transportation that is critical to a thriving community," said Robbie Makinen, President and CEO of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority. "He understands that public transit is the one thing that connects all the dots. Whether it's jobs, education, healthcare, or affordable housing, public transportation and related infrastructure is the great equalizer." The $27 million in funding will allow the KCATA to buy new electric buses, address repair backlogs, modernize fleets, and transition to modern technologies that reduce carbon emissions and lessen harmful pollution. Additionally, these funds will help build on the record number of jobs already created under President Biden due to Buy American requirements that apply to steel, iron, and other materials necessary for transit projects. More information on this $27 million in federal funding from the Cleaver-supported Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is available here. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T02:19:30Z
