https://cohen.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/cohen-introduce-bill-require-president-trump-release-remaining-documents Cohen to Introduce a Bill to Require President Trump To Release Remaining Documents Regarding JFK Assassination 2017-10-30 2017 2017-10 Democrat House TN Steve Cohen C001068 cohen.house.gov     legacy [WASHINGTON, D.C.] — Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that he will be introducing legislation to require President Trump to immediately release all remaining documents regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (JFK). Today’s announcement follows President Trump’s failure to meet last week’s Congressionally mandated deadline for a final decision as to which documents would be released. “President Trump failed to meet a deadline set in federal law 25 years ago when he decided last week to delay release of some documents associated with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. That kind of slothful approach to meeting a legal dictate is not how it works. If he wanted additional review of sensitive materials, that review should have taken place before last week’s deadline. I will be introducing legislation to enforce the Congressionally mandated deadline and require the President to immediately release all documents.  All of the records have been reviewed and the reviewers know what they propose to be redacted. That should take six days, not six months.” The JFK Records Collection Act was signed into law in October 1992 and mandated release of all records within 25 years unless their release would be more harmful than the public’s legitimate interest in them. The deadline occurred October 26, 2017.  ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
