Kennedy in 1963. “Despite the 1992 passage of a Congressionally mandated October 26, 2017, deadline requiring the President of the United States to make a determination about what documents can and should be released to the public regarding President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the current president failed to comply,” Cohen said. The president’s failure to execute this requirement raises long-held concerns that the U.S. government continues to withhold critical information about the events in Dallas 54 years ago this month, Cohen said. President George H.W. Bush signed the JFK Records Collection Act into law 25 years ago, setting the deadline that expired last month. The bill gives the president two days after its enactment to determine what documents can be released and another two days to then release them. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
