https://cohen.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/congressman-cohen-announces-over-775000-st-jude-children-s-research Congressman Cohen Announces Over $775,000 for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital 2018-08-02 2018 2018-08 Democrat House TN Steve Cohen C001068 cohen.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON D.C.Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded St. Jude Children's Research Hospital a grant totaling $792,792. This grant will help fund important research on mechanisms of regulated cell death. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is one of the top research hospitals in the world and they continue to follow their mission of saving lives and providing care for all children, said Congressman Cohen. We are fortunate to have St. Jude in Memphis and this federal grant will support St. Jude in their efforts to end childhood cancer. Research for mechanism of regulated cell death aims to find cells in multicellular organisms that threaten the organism or are no longer essential to that organism. These damaged cells are then destroyed through apoptosis, or programmed cell death, which is a tightly regulated cell self-destruction process. Regulated cell death is crucial in advancing cancer research and the elimination of deadly cancer cells. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
