Lipman, the founder of Guardsmark and a supporter of social justice causes and a free press. Congressman Cohen made the following statement: My friend Irawas apassionate advocate forsocial justice and a defender of journalistic freedom. He will be missed for his wisdom, courage and willingness to step up. His was a life well-lived. Mr. Lipman was a leader in social justice organizations, and served as chairman,and later as honorary chairman for life,of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He stood up to racism wherever it raised its ugly head and was recognized by the NAACP. He created the John Chancellor Award of Excellence, named for NBC newsman John Chancellor, who used Ira's knowledge as a student during the 1957 integration of Little Rock Central High School as a valued anonymous source. The Ira A.
