On a rainy day in late November 1989, President Bush spoke from the front lawn of The Commercial Appeal on Union, extolling the newspaper and its editor, Lionel Linder, for their work focusing on individuals in the Memphis region making a difference as volunteers. His One Thousand Points of Light' initiative still thrives and will be part of his lasting legacy. He was a class act.
