In his remarks, Congressman Cohen noted that the 288-mile scenic hiking trail connects Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina and crosses the Appalachian Trail six times. One 93-mile stretch is in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The study called for in the bill would assess whether trail meets the standards of other national scenic trails. If it does, it would be the first so designated by Congress since 2009. See the congressman’s floor speech here. # # # 1 2026-06-17T06:49:24Z 2026-06-17T06:50:53Z
