The measure contains vital provisions for our service members, addresses Vietnam-era veterans dealing with exposure to Agent Orange, and begins the process for removing the names of Confederate officials in the Civil War from our military installations, among its important provisions. The vote, which required a two-thirds majority, was 322 to 87. Congressman Cohen made the following statement: Earlier this month, I voted for the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and today I voted to override the President's misguided veto of this critical measure. The bill, which will become law if a similar override vote passes the Senate, has language that authorizes a $2 million multi-drone intelligence program that will be housed at the University of Memphis.The bill also removes all names, symbols, displays, monuments, and paraphernalia across the military that honor or commemorate the Confederacy and will create a Chief Diversity Officer within the Department of Defense to ensure our military reflects our country's diversity.
