Some say Steve Cropper was the greatest guitar player in the world, and he was a great songwriter. I was present in 2016 when he donated three Fender guitars and an amplifier to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, one guitar played on Otis Redding’s ‘(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay,’ another played in a scene from the movie ‘The Blues Brothers.’ A graduate of Messick High School and a founder of Booker T and the MGs, Hall of Famer Steve Cropper will always be known for his Memphis roots and his contribution to the Stax sound.” # # # 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T20:09:11Z
