The transcript of his conversation with the President of Ukraine confirms that he solicited foreign interference in the 2020 election.Then he openly called on China to investigate Vice President JoeBiden.This clearly demonstrateshe is violating his oath and subverting the Constitution andthe immediate need to pursue an impeachment inquiry. The Presidenthas also threatened the whistleblower and has obstructed Congressional oversight of his actions. I have offered my thoughts on national television several times this week. Protecting Musicians and the Music Industry Congressman Cohen with JonHornyakand Vicki Loveland of the Recording Academy Memphis Chapter On Wednesday, I went to Ardent Studio on Madison to meet with Recording Academy executive director JonHornyakand members to talk about federal legislation to strengthen music creators' rights. As a proud supporter of the Music Modernization Act,whichbecame law last year, I remain a staunch advocate of updating copyright law to protect musicians and will make sure producers, mixers and sound engineers receive the royalties they are due. Speaking at the Dedication of the Russell B.SugarmonJr. Memorial Bridge On Thursday, I spoke from the grounds of the Memphis Theological Seminary adjacent to the new Russell B.SugarmonJr. Memorial Bridge and recalled my friend and mentor as one of our greatest champions of civil rights. I'm proud to have written and passed into law last year the bill naming the Autumn Avenue post office for the late paragon of justice. The date of Thursday's dedication October 3 was selected by JudgeSugarmon'sfamily because it was the anniversary of the date in 1961 that he called his proudest moment, when he escorted the 6-year-old Malone twins, Sheila and Sharon, into Gordon Elementary School as part of the movement to desegregate Memphis public schools. DemandingtheFederal Aviation Administration Review Airliner Evacuations As the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA)prepares to conduct tests next month of whether commercial airliners with their small seats and narrow distances between rows of seats can be safely evacuated in the statutorily mandated 90 seconds, I have been interviewed by reporters about my Seat Egress in Air Travel (SEAT) Act. Provisions of the bill, requiring the FAA assessment of the safety of current seat sizes, became law last year. I'm concerned it has taken too long for the evaluation to get under way, but I'm pleasedto see the FAA is finally taking action. See a story about ithere. Discussing Abolishingthe Electoral College Congressman Cohen with Justice Stephen Breyer Also Thursday, I spoke to the American Constitutional Society atmy alma mater,the University of Memphis School of Law,about my Constitutional Amendment,H.J. Res. 7, to do away with the archaic Electoral College. Twice in the past 20 years we have had Presidents whodid not winthe popular vote. I believe that every vote should count. Later in the day, I spoke with Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer before he delivered his Constitution Day lecture at Rhodes College. Calling Attention to Gun Crime Tip Line Last month, I met with officials with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to talk about gun crime in Memphis and the creation of a strike force to address it. I also told the officials that I would call attention to the bureau's Gun Crimes Tip Line in my newsletter to constituents.
