Cole was selected as a recipient of this award for his leadership and role in boosting funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support biomedical research. During Cole's tenure as the top Republican of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, the NIH budget has increased by 49 percent since fiscal year 2015.
