Introduced by Congressman Comer in February, H.R. 1276 will empower local officials to fully transfer land to the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club, allowing the organization to renovate and improve its facilities for the benefit of the community. “It is an honor to serve the people of Paducah and McCracken County in Congress. One of their community’s most impactful institutions, the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club, has been a cornerstone of support and opportunity for local youth for over sixty years. Unfortunately, a lingering federal interest in the property dating back to the City’s involvement in the Federal Lands to Parks Program decades ago has impeded progress on an exciting renovation project for the local Boys and Girls Club. H.R. 1276 is a straightforward, common-sense bill that would lift this outdated restriction and allow the City to fully transfer the land to the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club. I was proud to collaborate with the City of Paducah, the National Park Service, and local stakeholders to develop this legislative solution. Background: The City of Paducah approached Congressman Comer’s office requesting assistance with removing the NPS’s role in the property that includes the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club. The city currently owns the property after it was conveyed through the Federal Lands to Parks Program, but NPS still holds one restriction on the property. Paducah, Kentucky officials seek to transfer the property to the Boys and Girls Club, allowing the organization to renovate the building, including an updated gym and additional classrooms. Congressman Comer’s office collaborated with the City of Paducah, NPS, U.S. Army, and the House Committee on Natural Resources on the legislation.
