Keeping the federal government open means that FBI agents who work day and night tracking down criminals and terrorists do not need to worry about a mortgage payment. Keeping the federal government open means that Central Intelligence Agency, Department of Defense, and National Security Agency officials will be one hundred percent focused on their mission and not concerned about making college tuition payments for their sons and daughters. And keeping the federal government open means that National Institute of Health researchers keep working toward finding new cures. Our military and federal employees cannot continually be used as a political football by either side for partisan gain, and I have said that ever since the 2013 shutdown. I am opposed to federal funding for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother, and I supported legislation last week that defunded Planned Parenthood while the congressional investigations are ongoing. Shutting down the federal government would have taken away the focus on these important hearings. National Right To Life President Carol Tobias in an op-ed echoed those concerns and is against a government shutdown over Planned Parenthood. As the congressional investigations progress, I hope the American people become more aware of these vile videos of Planned Parenthood. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
